MEET HUNTSMAN and JOINT MASTER KIM SIGMON
![]() Huntsman and Joint Master Kim Sigmon with Pearl. |
Kim Sigmon began her new job as huntsman in April, 2005, after serving several years as honorary whipper-in. She was appointed Joint Master in April, 2006, and shares duties with long-time Masters Cam Hall and Jerry McKenzie.
Master Kim has earned her stripes in every possible discipline involving a horse. A native of Maryland, Kim has galloped thoroughbred race horses there and raced a few herself in Virginia point-to-points. She is a B-rated pony clubber, has shown hunter-jumpers, and evented successfully in Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania. Western pleasure, gymkhanas and rodeos are also among her interests. Kim can drive a team of draft horses up to an eight-horse hitch. And from their famous Newton (NC) Windmill Acres Farm, she, her husband John, and father-in-law Edd Sigmon are respected throughout the U.S. and Canada for their driving accomplishments.
Master Kim has also bred, broken and trained Quarterhorses, Thoroughbreds and draft crossbreds. Kim can shoe a horse and French-braid her hair, but not at the same time. She fells trees and shoulders sacks of cement two-at-a-time just because she can. Her broad experience, dynamic personality and tireless work ethic combine to make her a tremendous asset to YVH.
Joint Master of Foxhounds Cam Hall
started as whipper-in for YVH in 1976. For 15 years, she served YVH as Huntsman, an unpaid position, until YVH hired its first professional huntsman in 1994. Cam has been MFH since 1979.
Cam and Kim share MFH duties with Jerry McKenzie
who has been Joint Master for the past 19 years. Jerry thought he retired in 1999 when he decided he could not hold a paying job and work for YVH at the same time. He now works more hours for the hunt than he did at his manufacturing plant. We appreciate his priorities. If it were not for him, YVH would not enjoy the facilities or hunting that we have.
First Field Master Mitzi Davis
took over in 2004 from Jerry who decided 22 years was enough field mastering for him. She is also Chairman of the Board of Directors.
Evie Good
is Second Field Master. She takes her field over small jumps, leads them around higher fences, while following the first field at a somewhat slower pace. She is also Honorary Secretary.
Our most senior Honorary Whipper-in, Sally Smith
, was appointed by the MFH in 1979.
Cam Hall, Sue Charlton
, Sunni McKnight
and Will McIntyre
also serve as Honorary Whippers-in.
